Mineral wool lamella mats — non-flammable technical insulation

The lamella mat (Lamella Mat) is formed by applying perpendicularly oriented bands of mineral wool to a cladding made of reinforced aluminium foil. Such a fiber system gives high tensile strength when wrapping pipes with large diameters and allows to isolate ducts and pipelines without cutting material into segments. This is a non-combustible solution designed to install warm and work at high temperatures.

Technical parameters

  • heat conduction factor: approx. 0,036–0.045 W/(m·K) depending on average temperature,
  • maximum operating temperature: up to approx. 250 °C on the aluminium lining side,
  • reaction to fire: Class A1 or A2-s1,d0 — non-flammable material,
  • cladding: aluminium foil reinforced with glass mesh, with an adhesive tab,
  • typical thicknesses: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 and 100 mm,
  • full biological resistance and good acoustic insulation.

Application

Rectangular and circular ventilation ducts, central heating and hot water pipelines, thermal nodes, boiler rooms, industrial installations, tanks and collectors. Lamel mat is the right choice wherever the flammability class is required or the operating temperature exceeds the rubber insulation capacity.

How to Choose Thickness

For warm installations, the minimum thickness is defined by the Regulation on technical conditions, at reference ÷ = 0.035 W/(m·K): internal diameter up to 22 mm – 20 mm insulation, 22–35 mm – 30 mm, 35–100 mm – layer equal to internal diameter, above 100 mm – 100 mm. The thickness shall be calculated with the higher material and the wires in the floor or internal partition shall require half of these values.

Edit

  • wrap the mat with aluminium lining on the outside, without pressing the wool too much,
  • Seal the adhesive tab and the front connectors with aluminium tape,
  • use cufflinks, wire or stabilizing bandage for large diameters and verticals,
  • protect the material from moisture – wet wool loses insulation parameters,
  • outside the building secure insulation with a sheet metal coat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the lamellae mat be used on refrigeration installations?

This is not recommended. Mineral wool does not have its own parochial barrier – the leak depends solely on aluminum lining, and every leaky connector leads to moisture. Rubber mat is the right choice for cold installations.

How does a lamellae mat differ from a regular wool mat?

The lamellar fiber is perpendicular to the lining. Thanks to this, the material is better able to withstand tensions when wrapping, does not expand on arches and retains constant thickness after attachment.

Is aluminum lining enough as external protection?

Outside the building, no. The film protects against dust and facilitates cleaning, but when exposed to rainfall and UV, a galvanised or aluminium sheet coat is required.
